Why Women 40+ are my Favorite to Shoot and Why they Need to be Bold in their Personal Branding
Don’t get me wrong, I love shooting all ages of men and women however, when it comes to women 40+, I hold a special place for them.
Most likely it’s because I’m 50 but it goes deeper than that. I can of course relate to younger people for obvious reasons - being excited about their enthusiasm, and the “been there, don’t that”- kind of thing. But now with more women over 40 starting new businesses and saying, “if not now, when?, well, I have found my tribe.
At 50 I don’t exactly feel like I have a mastery of living, it’s more like I’m now living a more responsible, conscious life and I want it to be amazing. When you are over 40 you realize you don’t have all the time in the world anymore.
Women over 40 have life experience and there is something about the way they look at you and the way they take up space - it’s the complexity and the layers of a life lived that shows in their very essence and is so exciting to capture.
We can be fiercely independent, life long learners, constantly improving and some, like me, are just getting started. To be part of that journey, in a small way, is thrilling and it is creativity at its highest level for me.
Why Women 40+ Need to Be Bold with their Personal Branding Images
Now that we are living longer, healthier lives being 40+ is no longer old. However, there is a huge difference in knowing life is short and time is precious. There is an energy and a vivaciousness in this and it’s powerful.
Sometimes we can feel intimidated by younger women who came out of the womb with selfie-sticks and know how to pose and look great in images. We can feel insecure about our bodies (like most people any age getting their picture taken), or want to look younger to feel more relevant in our still youth obsessed culture (however things are getting better). We sometimes feel that we have to do what younger people are doing and I’m here to say we DO NOT have to, nor should we, and I I won’t let us!
Being bold is showing who you are, being authentic and being proud about it. Cliche, I know, but like a fine wine we have layers and complexity to us and that’s what makes for an amazing photo. It shows in the images (take a look at these fab women on this page) that we are more confident in how we dress and how we show up. There is nothing more empowering than feeling good about how you look - stylish, cool and confident because you bring your power and you are no longer afraid to show up and show off your authentic self. This is not reserved for younger people.
I encourage all women, especially 40+, to be bold, be different and don’t copy what everyone else is doing. We need more authenticity and uniqueness and there is no one in this world like you. Younger women look up to us and when they see the images of my clients 40+ they are in admiration and know they have something to look forward to as they age - power, self-knowledge, courage and unique talents to share with the world.
So, women 40+ let’s continue to be role models for all, share our images with the world that highlights all of our wisdom and beauty and let’s continue to crush it!
